MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING

Mental health first aid training will take place at the Parsippany Community Center, 1130 Koll Road, Lake Hiawatha, on March 29 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A five-step plan is taught to offer initial help to people developing a mental health or substance abuse disorde. Cost $35 includes light refreshments. Space is limited.

White Meadow Temple Seniors

RTEF Kids' Expo

The Rockaway Township Education Foundation is hosting a Kids' Expo and Gear Swap on April 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Copeland Middle School. This is a great opportunity for kids and parents to check out activities available in and around Rockaway. No commitment required. Adopt-a-thon

Eleventh Hour Rescue's first annual Adopt-a-thon event will take place on April 2between noon and 3 p.m. at 111 Bloomfield Ave., Denville. Come adopt a furry friend or donate to a good cause. Donations of food, bedding, etc. will be accepted.

Historical society

The Historical Society of Rockaway Township will host "Silent Movies Filmed in Rockaway" on April 3 at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building Court Room, 65 Mt. Hope Road. Long-forgotten early movies filmed on location in the Rockaway Township area are conjured back through movie stills, posters and plot recaps. Three surviving Rockaway films will be shown. GFWC Woman's Club of Denville/Rockaway

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The GFWC Woman's Club of the Denville-Rockaway Area will be actively supporting the statewide Prevent Child Abuse-NJ organization with events in our communities.

April 4: Mara's Café and Bakery at 25 East Main St. in Denville has volunteered to support Child Abuse Prevention Month by creating a special chocolate cupcake with blue icing for sale during April. Fifty cents will be donated to PCA-NJ for each cupcake sold. Ten percent of all proceeds from that day will be donated to PCA-NJ. Donations will go through the woman's club.

April 30: 46 West Hair Salon located at 46 West Main St. in Rockaway will conduct a Hair-Cutathon on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. Call the salon at 973-551-4247. Haircuts will cost $20 and all proceeds will be donated to PCA-NJ through the woman's club.

Pinwheels for Prevention are the symbol for this year's Prevent Child Abuse-NJ awareness campaign. Outdoor garden pinwheel displays will be created by the woman's club at local libraries in Rockaway Township, Denville and Mountain Lakes. Information on child abuse prevention will also be available to the public at these locations.

Denville Seniors yard sale

Intuitive Painting (Acrylic): Classes are April 4, April 11, April 25 and May 2, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Café Metro, 60 Diamond Spring Road, Denville. Cost is $149, which includes supplies.

Blood drive

The Rockaway Township Division of Health will be sponsoring a free blood pressure screening for Rockaway Township residents on April 20, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Municipal Building, 65 Mt. Hope Road. No appointment is necessary. For more information, please call 973-983-2848/2849.

Rockaway rabies clinic

The Rockaway Township Division of Health will be offering a free rabies clinic for cats and dogs on April 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Rockaway Township Municipal Garage at 540 Green Pond Road. Dogs in attendance at the clinic must be leashed and cats must be in carriers. For more information, please call 973-983-2848 or 973-983-2849. Please help protect the community by vaccinating your dogs and cats.

Beefsteak dinner in Rockaway

The St. Cecilia's Men Society will be hosting a Charity Beefsteak Dinner on April 29 at 7 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to the St. Cecilia's Food Pantry. The lavish buffet of appetizers, pasta, beefsteak and dessert will take place in Hayes Hall at St. Cecilia's Church, located at 90 Church St. in Rockaway. Live music will be provided, along with a photo booth to make lasting memories.

Joey Bella Memorial Fund, Inc. July Events

The Joey Bella Memorial Fund, Inc. will host its annual fundraisers in early July. The fund has been in existence for 28 years and has collected over $1 million in donations that have been used to assist more than 50 families with children who are affected with catastrophic illness in Denville and surrounding areas.

The Tricky Tray is July 2 at Gardner Field, Savage Road and Route 46 West in Denville. Doors open at 6 p.m. and calling begins at 8 p.m. The cost of $15 per person includes one sheet of tickets and light refreshments. No one under age 18 will be admitted. Band Beer Beefsteak will be held on July 3 at Gardner Field, Savage Road and Route 46 West, Denville.
