Navy veteran and mother of four is latest Habitat for Humanity beneficiary

Marietta Daily Journal - 9/19/2017

A disabled military veteran has a new home in Austell for her family thanks to the efforts of Habitat for Humanity and Nissan.

Tiffany Evans was born in Houston, Texas, and served in the United States Navy for 12 years of active duty in locations from Alaska to Maryland.

During her time in the Navy, Evans received numerous awards, letters of appreciation, citations and Certifications as petty officer second class. She was selected as the Command Junior Sailor of the Quarter and received the Award of the Joint Service Achievement Medal for meritorious service from the Department of Defense.

Evans is a mother of four and refers to her children as her "four seasons" because they were each born in a different season.

Thomas, 18, the fall child, described his mother in a letter to Habitat for Humanity.

"In life so far, I have learned that we as individuals will fall flat on our faces for a numerous amount of reasons," he wrote. "For instance, a divorce, death, bankruptcy, or maybe even just having a bad day can make you fall. In the case of my mother, she has fallen countless times in life (literally). On the other hand, her resilience outweighs her failure. Raising four children, being divorced and struggling to make the world seem like a perfect place for her children has been hard, but she has overcome and has pushed forward."

Tiffany Evans and her four seasons stepped into their new home for the first time on Saturday.

Tiffany Evans, who is an active member of Hollydale United Methodist Church and serves in the leadership there, said she and her family have been praying for a new home.

"I have served this great United States of America as a military veteran," she said. "I am proud to serve God, country, my children and others. I am very proud that despite what I have been through in life, I reach for the positive, not negative. I see this as a new opportunity to have a newfound extended family because we will share time together united by a common affiliation of love for Christ, working for the purpose of lifting one up to resurrect those who cannot lift themselves and that one being myself, and (my) four seasons to return the love back to the very community you will place us in if given a chance to recycle the continuous wheel of giving."

Elena Sanchez, 10, the summer child, expressed her thoughts in a letter to Habitat for Humanity.

"I'm so happy for my new home," she wrote. "I have (been) waiting for this for my whole life now. Sometimes when I sleep, I think about a house and I even dream of a house, and when I wake up, I wish I had that house, but now I got you and I'm so happy thanks."
