Joliet Moose Lodge to hose breakfast to honor veterans

The Herald News - 6/3/2018

The Joliet Moose Lodge will host a free breakfast for veterans from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday.

The event, in the lodge located at 25 Springfield Ave. in Joliet, is not restricted to lodge members. It is open and free to all veterans, while family members can pay $7 each for breakfast.

"We'll be serving biscuits and gravy, eggs to order, sausage, bacon, hash browns, juices and coffee," Moose Legion member Joe Starmann said. "And there'll be toast, too."

The lodge is paying for the breakfast. It is not the result of fundraisers or donations.

He said the idea for the event came about after he saw Moose International acknowledging veterans.

"I'm a veteran myself. I've got a son in the Army, too. He's over in Germany somewhere, we've got a lot of guys there. There's never been recognition and nothing done for them," Starmann said. "It's just something we wanted to do for them."

Starmann said that about 1 p.m. he will present certificates of appreciation and pins to community veterans.

Veterans are asked to bring a military ID to Sunday's event.
