Children’s Homes announces new staff

Gaston Gazette - 7/30/2020

Children's Homes of Cleveland County announced the addition of a new staff member.

Dawn Stover will serve as an outpatient mental health counselor.

Stover received both her master of arts in mental health counseling and her bachelor of arts in criminal justice from Gardner-Webb University and then spent 15 years advocating for Cleveland County children and teens who experienced trauma, PTSD, anxiety and depression.

Stover's new position at Children's Homes of Cleveland County will give her the opportunity to serve her community in a way that combines her passion to serve both children and first-responders.

She provides evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy and prolonged exposure. She is certified in critical incident stress management for individuals and groups in crisis and is a member of the Western North Carolina Peer Support Network as well as a founding partner with Champions for Children, a nonprofit that helps Cleveland County children in foster care.

Children's Homes of Cleveland County has operated an outpatient mental health clinic for over a decade with specialized services for children and families of this county.
