Orlando Sentinel - 1/17/2020

Jan. 17--A Marion County teacher fears he may lose his job over the medical marijuana he's prescribed for PTSD, according to news reports.

Michael Hickman told WESH-Channel 2 that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after serving as a Marine in Desert Storm.

Hickman was recently promoted to a dean at Belleview High School, about 9 miles southeast of Ocala, the TV station reported.

The WESH report said the marijuana showed up in a drug test the school board required Hickman to take after he was hurt breaking up a fight.

"School officials said taking medical marijuana is legal according to state law, but not legal according to federal law" and that it could hurt federal funding for the school system.
