Torrington to mark Veterans Day with ceremony

Nov. 1—TORRINGTON — The Torrington Veterans Memorial Committee invites the public, current military personnel and all veterans, to the committee's Veterans Day observance at 10:30 a.m.Nov. 11, at the Coe Memorial Park Civic Center.

The event will have with rifle salute and taps outside at 11 a.m. to commemorate the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France on Nov. 11, 1918, formally ending hostilities on the Western Front of World War I.

Service clubs, military and veterans organizations are invited to present a wreath at the observance to honor veterans.

If interested, email the Torrington Veterans Memorial Committee at or call the Torrington Veterans Service Office at 860- 489-2531 no later than 2 p.m., Nov. 7.

Those residents who have an American flag that is torn, faded, or otherwise damaged, may bring it to the observance, where a member of a veterans organization will take the flag and see that it is properly retired.
